UNBELIEVABLE: The new “Pirates of the Caribbean” will not have Johnny Depp, the eternal Captain Jack Sparrow
The website “World of Reel” has reported that the next production in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise will begin in 2025, but without the return of its protagonist. Johnny Depp will not reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow, and the film does not yet have an official title.
Depp had a public dispute with Disney, which is planning a film in the franchise starring Margot Robbie in the lead role. According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the production with the “Barbie” star is still a possibility: “We have two different films. We hope to be able to make both, and I believe Disney agrees, as they really want to make the film with Margot. I’m sure Margot (Robbie) was disappointed that it didn’t progress faster. But maybe it’s a blessing to work on it for a longer time. We believe we will make it happen. It’s a very strong story”, he said.
Margot Robbie also commented to Vanity Fair about how the reboot’s plot would be developed: “We had an idea and we were working on it. It’s been a while. It would be something more focused on female characters”. Now, we can only wait to see how this new adventure will unfold.
The most recent film in the series is “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2017), and all the films feature Johnny Depp as the famous Jack Sparrow.
It is important to remember that the reboot with Margot Robbie was announced in 2020, but little progress has been made in production since then.
