Dolls from the movie “Wicked” are released with a porn site code on the box, and Mattel apologizes
Mattel issued an apology following a manufacturing error in the packaging of dolls inspired by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s characters from the movie “Wicked.” During printing, the address of a pornographic website, which had a name similar to the official movie site, was mistakenly inserted.
In a statement published in The Hollywood Reporter (via NME) on Sunday (10), Mattel said, “We deeply regret the error and are taking immediate steps to correct it. We are alerting parents that the incorrect website, due to a printing mistake, is not appropriate for children.”
The company also recommended that consumers who already own the product discard the packaging or delete the link and contact Mattel’s Customer Service for more information.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (via NME), the “Wicked” inspired dolls were pulled from shelves at Target stores in the United States, and other retailers such as Walmart and Amazon were also reviewing the products on Sunday.
