Critics have already watched “Wicked” and praise it: “Best musical since ‘Hairspray'”
Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film adaptation of the musical “Wicked” is coming soon to theaters.
After directing the incredible adaptations “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights,” Jon M. Chu returns triumphantly with his reinterpretation of “Wicked” – easily the best musical film since “Hairspray.”
Maintaining the theatrical aesthetic of the Broadway show while not abandoning the cinematic language, Chu creates a flawless visual and narrative spectacle, transforming the story into one of the best film endeavors of the year and the decade.
As the cherry on top, we have the applaudable performances of Cynthia Erivo, embodying the more taciturn and justice-driven side of Elphaba, and Ariana Grande, delivering the best performance of her career in a comedic escape that works from start to finish.
“Wicked” follows the story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West (played by Cynthia Erivo), a young woman who enrolls at Shiz University to learn how to control her powers. It is there that she meets Glinda, the Good Witch of the South (played by Ariana Grande), a popular student who promises to help the introverted Elphaba with her public behavior. The film unfolds before, during, and after the classic events of “The Wizard of Oz.”
The film production will be divided into two parts and will feature new songs written by the original composer of the show, Stephen Schwartz.
