James Gunn Denies Rumors About the Storyline of the “Superman” Movie in Theaters
Since taking over DC Studios, James Gunn has been debunking a series of rumors about the superhero universe’s projects.
The latest rumor suggested that Gunn would write and direct a Justice League movie based on the work “Justice League: The New Frontier”. For those who are not familiar, this story was created by Darwyn Cooke and published by DC Comics in 2004 in six volumes. Set in the 1950s, it features the classic Golden Age heroes (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) joining forces with the Silver Age heroes (The Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter). The narrative also serves as a transition between these two eras in the DC Universe.
However, in a post on Threads, Gunn denied the rumor, saying: “No, sorry. There’s no truth to this. I love The New Frontier and this incredible alternate history is a major influence on DC Studios”.
While fans continue to speculate about future characters and actors, it’s important to remember that the Superman movie will mark the beginning of the new phase of the DCU under James Gunn’s direction.
The release is scheduled for July 11, 2025, with David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
