Kate Cassidy, influencer and Liam Payne’s girlfriend, is said to have given the singer an ultimatum before his tragic death in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16th. Kate reportedly demanded that he choose her before his death: “either me or the drugs.”
Liam and Kate had been on vacation in Argentina in the weeks leading up to Liam’s passing, as he needed to renew his visa to live in the United States with the model. His visa had expired due to his history of drug use and rehab periods, which required him to undergo medical exams and drug tests before being cleared.
The One Direction star tragically passed away at the age of 31 on October 16th after suffering multiple traumas that resulted in “internal and external bleeding.” Reports indicate that Kate had told friends that she gave Liam an ultimatum to stop using drugs.
Before the drug tests, it was believed that Liam had been clean, and he passed the exams, being on the verge of receiving his visa. However, it was reported that, shortly after passing the tests, Liam resumed drug use and alcohol consumption, according to the Mirror.
A source revealed to the New York Post: “His drug use was causing a lot of drama. So, she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs. He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to step away.” Kate and Liam had planned to stay only five days in Argentina, but their stay was extended to two weeks, something she did not want.
Kate shared on social media that she “hated” being in one place for too long and needed to return to her home in Florida. The source stated that Kate told friends she felt like a “hostage” as the vacation dragged on. “It was getting really damaging to everyone’s health. She hoped he would follow her back to Miami,” the source added.
Two days after Liam’s death, Kate posted an emotional tribute on social media. She shared the love she felt for Liam and admitted to being “lost.” On Instagram, she wrote: “Thank you for all the kind words and the love that has been sent to me. I’m completely lost. Nothing in the past few days has felt real. I ask and pray for you to give me the grace and space to deal with this. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know that I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will love you for the rest of my life. I love you, Liam.”
A week after Liam’s death, Kate released a statement saying that Liam had planned to propose to her before the end of 2024. She said: “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is broken in a way I can’t express. I wish you could see the huge impact you had on the world, even though now everything feels so dark. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone — millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially to me. You are incredibly loved.”
“None of this feels real, and I still can’t understand how to live without you. Together, we were like kids, always finding joy in the little things. Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun and loving spirit. It feels like I lost the best part of myself. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.”
She continued: “A few weeks ago, we were sitting outside, on a beautiful night, dreaming about our future together. I keep your note with me, even though you told me not to look at it. It said: ‘Kate and I will get married within a year, engaged and together forever 444.’ Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we imagined. You will always be with me. I gained a guardian angel.”
