“Squid Game” (2021) is a huge worldwide phenomenon.

The Netflix series with a story of more money for people who, to get money for the most comfortable people, to get a life of comfortable money, to get into one will only come out of money for the millionaires or for the deaths.

The series all possible records and known to fans around the world!

And she gets even better knowing his behind-the-scenes secrets.

Let’s meet 10 curiosities of this sensational series:

1 – WHAT DO SYMBOLS AND MASKS MEAN

Circle, triangle and square. At first glance the fan may think that he is simply referring to the control of a playstation, which has exactly these symbols, but the truth is that the symbols represent the name of the game and the series.

In the Korean alphabet, the circle represents the letter “O” (ㅇ), the triangle is the “J” (ㅈ), and the square is the letter “M” (ㅁ). And what does OJM mean? They mean “Ojingeo Geim” (오징어 게임), which is nothing more than the name of the game: “Squid Game”.

According to director Hwang, his inspiration for the “Squid Game” team masks were ant colonies, as in a colony, each ant has its established function, but it is impossible to distinguish the differences between them.

The team’s uniforms demonstrated the uniformity between them, but it’s the symbols on their helmets that reveal their roles.

Those with the triangle are soldiers, those who use the circle are workers, and the square is used only by leaders, bosses.

Each of them has specific functions and must only perform what is assigned to them, otherwise they must be killed.

2 – EVEN THE COLORS OF THE UNIFORMS ARE IMPORTANT

While extremely violent, “Squid Game” is also very colorful. And two colors stand out in this palette: green and pink. While the soldiers wear pink uniforms with black masks, the participants are all in green attire, which very much resembles sports uniforms. And all this was not chosen at random.

According to the director, the clothes indicate conformity, but also contrast. The participants are dressed in gym clothes as a reference to the student uniforms that Hwang saw when he was in high school, and their downgrading in terms of hierarchy. Also, the green makes for an excellent contrast to the blood of the death scenes.

In complete opposition, the soldiers are in pink, a color that ends up becoming synonymous with fear in the game, and can be seen in several other parts of the place.

The numbers on the uniforms bring to light the way in which the game system steals the identity of each one of them.

You don’t have a name in there: you are just a number.

3 – CLUES IN THE WALL PAINTINGS

The paintings on the walls of the rooms were revealed as the participants died and the beds were removed.

And at the end we realized the illustrations of each of the games that the participants had to go through.

4 – THE OLD MAN’S NAME HAS IMPORTANT MEANING

II-nam’s name literally means “Man number one”, which perfectly matches the number on his uniform.

The charismatic old man, who we later discovered to be the leader of everything, is the number 1 player in the game and the one with the most power and wealth, at the top of the hierarchy.

5 – THE STAIRCASE WAS INSPIRED BY A FAMOUS WORK

Relativity, de M.C. Escher / Squid Game

During a press conference to promote the series, director Hwang revealed the inspiration behind the confusing staircases we can see in the first episode. The set was built based on the work Relativity, by M.C. Escher.

While the artist’s work seems to portray the breaking of the law of gravity, the “Squid Game” scene seems to show the different origins and paths taken by the participants, in a confusing network, where there is order, but also chaos.

And where each one’s choices can lock them in their consequences.

6 – THE DOLL REALLY EXISTS

Believe me, the giant doll from the series exists in real life and is located in a museum in Jincheon County, South Korea.

The doll belongs to the Jincheon Carriage Museum, also known as Macha Land, and was loaned to the production of the series.

But don’t worry: She has already been returned to her place of origin and receives several visits daily.

7 – HAS ALMOST NO CGI

In the name of the reality of the scene, the director of the series did everything to use as little special effects resources as possible.

An example of this is the first test of the game. In fact, 456 actors were on set participating in the scene.

Furthermore, the huge backdrops were also real. The recording sets were actually built as we see in the series.

8 – THE DIRECTOR GETS A LOT OF “NO” BEFORE SUCCESS

“Squid Game” was phenomenally successful after its debut on Netflix. The series achieved an incredible 100% approval on the review website Rotten Tomatoes and topped the ranking of most viewed productions in 22 countries.

And more: it is the most watched program of all time on the platform, an achievement that belonged to “Bridgerton”. But it was not an easy road to get there.

The script for “Squid Game” was finished in 2009, but director Hwang Dong-huk couldn’t get investors or even actors to get his ideas off the ground, as it was considered too violent and disturbing.

9 – “SQUID GAME” IS PLAGIARISM

It’s not exactly uncommon for something very successful to generate some controversy.

Currently, director and screenwriter Hwang Dong-hyuk is being accused of plagiarizing the Japanese production “As The Gods Will”. One of the accusations is based on the moment of the first test, with the gigantic and terrifying doll.

10 – THE DIRECTOR SAID HE WOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE GAMES

Hwang Dong-huk

Hwang Dong-huk, series director, revealed that he wrote the first script for “Squid Game” in 2008.

During a publicity interview for the show, he revealed that at the time he had several debts, like the game participants we see in the series.

His difficult financial situation was the inspiration for the plot of the series.

And he even stated that he would participate in a game of the genre if there was one in that period.

Would I participate?… NEVER!

“Squid Game” got on the nerves of fans all over the world with its incredible story and super interesting characters.

And you? Would you also participate in the games if given the chance?
