With the success of the series “Penguin”, producer wants to explore more stories of other characters
Following the success of “Penguin,” Matt Reeves, the producer of the series and director of “The Batman” (2022), has finally commented on new projects derived from the Batman film. In an interview with Interview Magazine, he revealed: “We’ve been discussing this, and it’s exciting to see that the audience has embraced the series. My vision is taking shape, which is very thrilling, and HBO has supported us from the start”.
Reeves also stated: “We’re talking about the possibility of creating other series. I wanted to make sure we wouldn’t explore origin stories, as many others have done. The idea of giving more focus to minor characters is really exciting. Batman stories are about the city and its dysfunctions, society and its problems, and Gotham should be a better place. You can explore this in an epic way, like in the ‘Epic Crime Saga’, but you can also create standalone experiences, each with its own value. Oz’s story is unique, and the same concept would apply to the other series”.
When asked about potential protagonists for future projects, Reeves mentioned that there have been talks about a series focused on Harvey Dent, as well as speculation about other characters like Clayface, Mr. Freeze, and the Joker. However, no official confirmation has been made so far.
The full season of “Penguin” is now available for streaming on Max, while “The Batman – Part II” is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 2, 2026.
