The rapper Jeffery Lamar Williams, known as Young Thug, was released from prison after reaching a judicial agreement related to charges of gang involvement, according to the BBC.
At 33, Young Thug had been detained in May 2022 and faced seven additional charges beyond the alleged gang association. Last Thursday, the 31st, he was sentenced to 15 years of probation and released on the same day.
During the hearing, the rapper stated, “I take full responsibility for my crimes and the charges. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was impacted by this situation.” He described himself as “a good-hearted person” who ended up in trouble for being “too generous or affable.”
“I’ve realized that upon reaching certain levels of success, you can’t act in certain ways, as it can bring negative consequences,” he said.
Young Thug’s trial began in November 2023. In addition to probation, he was sentenced to 100 hours of community service, prohibited from contacting gang members or co-defendants, and barred from entering the metropolitan Atlanta area for the next 10 years, except under specific circumstances.
