🍿 10 curiosities about the movie "TITANIC" that you didn't know!

That Titanic is a work of art, there is no doubt. One of the most acclaimed and awarded films in the history of cinema and a favorite of many people's lives (myself included).

The film tells the true story of the ocean liner called Titanic which, in 1912, was considered the most luxurious ship in the world. It was also called unsinkable, many people said that "Not even God would sink the Titanic", this line was said by the character Carl (Billy Zane) in the film. But at dawn on April 14th, it collided with an iceberg and sank, killing more than half of the passengers, for lack of boats.

We also know the impossible love story about the rich girl Rose (Kate Winslet) and poor guy Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio). One of the most remembered couples in cinema, with the most beautiful kissing scene in the world.

Speaking of Leonardo and Kate, they didn't become a couple in real life, but their friendship is known around the world as the "most beautiful friendship in cinema".

When Kate won the Oscar for best actress in 2009 for the film "The Reader", Leonardo was in the front row to honor her. And in 2016, when Leonardo (finally) won the Oscar for the movie "The Revenant", it was Kate's turn to be there in the front row, crying for her friend's award.

Leonardo was the one who walked Kate down the aisle when she got married, and at every Oscar award show, fans ask them to take pictures together, even after many years of the film's release.

Here are 10 more interesting facts about Titanic:

1 – JAMES CAMERON DID EVERYTHING INSTEAD

When the recordings began, FOX made three necessary demands on the film's director and writer, James Cameron: 1) The film had to premiere in the US summer (July), 2) It should only be 2 hours long, and 3) It could not cost more than 150 million dollars.

Cameron, however, did not obey any of the three rules: The film opened in December, is more than 3 hours long and cost 200 million dollars.

But we're sure that after the great success at the box office and at the Oscars, FOX didn't complain about anything.

In fact, the film cost more than the actual ship itself: while the film cost 200 million dollars, the real Titanic of 1912 cost 7 million, converting to the dollar in 1997 would give approximately 120 million dollars.

2 – BIGGEST BOX OFFICE IN CINEMA HISTORY FOR MORE THAN A DECADE

Titanic was the highest grossing film in the history of cinema from 1997 to 2009, that is, for 12 years! It was only surpassed by another film from the same director James Cameron: Avatar.

Today, the top three movie grosses are:

FIRST: Avatar (With 2,847,246,203 Billion Dollars)

SECOND: Avengers Endgame (With $2,797,501,328 Billion)

THIRD: Titanic (2,201,647,264 Billion Dollars)

3 – JAMES CAMERON VISITED THE REAL SHIP

Director James Cameron realized 12 expeditions to the wreckage of the real Titanic, spending more time on the ship than the ship's passengers.

4 – THE SEA WAS NOT SO DEEP

The pool that most of the extras jumped into when staging the part of the wreck was much shallower than the open sea – it was only about 1m deep.

5 – JAMES CAMERON DREW ROSE

In the famous scene where Jack draws a nude portrait of Rose, the hands that appear scribbling on the paper belong, in real life, to the film's director, James Cameron. This can be noticed when we look at the artist's hands, which are the hands of a much older person than Dicaprio.

Rose's drawing sold for over $16,000 at auction in 2011.

6 – THE ELDERLY COUPLE WAS REAL

During the shipwreck scene, an elderly couple appears hugging each other, as if accepting their fate, while their room is flooded. The two were inspired by Ida and Isidor Straus, real passengers on the Titanic.

7 – TITANIC AT THE OSCAR

Titanic is the most Oscar-winning film in cinema history, tied with Ben-Hur (1959) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003): each film won a total of 11 statuettes.

But no Oscars were given for the performances. Kate Winslet and Gloria Stuart (both competing for the role of Rose) didn't win and Leonardo Dicaprio didn't even compete!

8 – WE ALMOST DIDN'T HAVE LEONARDO AND KATE IN THE MAIN ROLES

Leonardo DiCaprio was not a studio favorite for the role of Jack. They wanted Matthew McConaughey.

For Kate Winslet it wasn't easy to live Rose either. She competed for the role with Madonna, Sharon Stone, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Winona Ryder and Uma Thurman.

Winslet was very insistent for the role, the actress even sent flowers to Cameron with notes signed as being "from your Rose".

9 – MAKING EVERYTHING AS REAL AS POSSIBLE

To make the story as real as possible, Cameron decided to make the accident scene last exactly as long as the actual collision of the ship with the iceberg happened: 37 seconds.

And if you take away the scenes that take place in the present, the movie is 2:40 hours long, in other words, exactly how long it took the Titanic to sink completely.

10 – THE MUSIC OF CELINE DION

The iconic song "My Heart Will Go On", was recorded only once and Celine Dion said she had taken coffee before recording, which compromises the singer´s voice.

So that perfect performance it's not with the artist's voice at its 100% effectiveness. Wow!!!

Titanic was part of people's lives and will continue to do so for generations to come. He tells one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century respectfully and perfectly.

I won't be alive to see the cinema produce a more beautiful and epic film than Titanic.
